For the many tons of material we collect through our various services, litter in San Antonio is still a problem. Keeping our beautiful City is a big job but is one you can help with.
Our Department picks up illegal dumping and we know where the trouble spots are - certain intersections, vacant lots and under bridges.
Consider forming an Adopt-a-Spot group so you and a group of coworkers, friends, and family can help keep City-owned rights-of-way, street medians, drainage channels, and green spaces clear from debris.
For local businesses that are participating in our ReWorksSA program, there are certification points available for hosting an Adopt-a-Spot event. Learn how.
To get started, visit the Adopt-a-Spot website.
Schedule a community cleanup event and dispose of unwanted brush or bulky items right in the neighborhood. Through our Dial-A-Trailer (DAT) program, you can reserve a garbage truck and trailer parked conveniently in a central location such as a parking lot or a park. This program is offered only on Saturdays.
We currently have four DATs available per Saturday. We can only send one unit per location request. Organizations are limited to two DAT events per calendar year. Only requests within the San Antonio city limits can be served. Please have three preferred Saturday dates when requesting this service as desired dates may already be committed. Events may not be scheduled on consecutive Saturdays. When scheduled, a truck and container will be stationed at a site from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
To reserve a DAT, please complete and return the DAT reservation request form.
We recycle clean brush, metals, and tires. Participants are encouraged to separate brush from bulky items.

A few years ago, the City did a study to see what residents were actually putting into the brown garbage carts. Amazingly, almost half of that material was organic and could have gone into the green cart and another large percentage was recyclable materials that could have gone into the blue cart. If you sort correctly, you can use a smaller brown cart and send less to the landfill.
We think that effort is worth something. If you downsize the brown trash cart, we can lower the monthly collection fee. Currently, moving from the large 96-gallon cart down to the small 48- gallon cart, will save you $144 a year. Even moving to the medium, 64-gallon cart will have money, too. Call 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000 and request a smaller size. You will start saving on your next CPS Energy bill.
ReWorksSA is an environmental program to provide the local business community with consultancy, resources, materials, and training on implementing sustainability best practices in the workplace. Organizations that partner with ReWorksSA can become certified by the City of San Antonio for making sustainability a top priority. It is one of San Antonio's climate initiatives in alignment with the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan.
Certification comes with valuable recognition for organizations that successfully complete the program and receive certification as a Gold, Silver or Bronze sustainable business – or the highest achievement, the Pinnacle Award.
For complete information on the prorgam including how to apply, visit the ReWorksSA website.
